What is online restaurant booking?
Online restaurant booking lets a guest select an available date, time and party size and submit a table request through a website or booking page. The restaurant needs rules behind that page so it does not promise the same table to two parties. The booking should then be usable by the host team when the guest arrives.
For Singapore diners, the broad search for “restaurant booking” often leads to restaurant directories and marketplaces. Those can help guests discover a new venue. A direct restaurant booking link serves people who already chose your restaurant—from your website, social profile or Google Business Profile—and can send them to your own booking page. Many restaurants use both routes.
Editorial disclosure: TableReady is an EISOL product. This article explains an operator workflow and where TableReady fits; it is not an independent ranking of booking platforms.
What should happen when a guest taps “Book a table”?
A good booking path is short enough for a diner to finish on a phone, yet precise enough for the restaurant to prepare. In TableReady’s public flow, a guest can choose a published outlet, party size, date and available slot, enter contact details, review booking policies and submit. A successful booking shows an on-screen reference and offers a calendar download; the guest does not need to create an account.
- 1Find the linkWebsite, eligible Google profile or social channel.
- 2Choose the visitOutlet, party size, date and an available time.
- 3Confirm the policyContact details and the restaurant’s booking terms.
- 4Plan the tableThe host team manages the reservation in the service view.
- 5Welcome the guestSeat the party and record what happened.
Test the full path as a guest would: one person, a larger party, a fully booked slot and a cancellation request. The public page should not offer a time the team cannot honour.
Where should a restaurant place its booking link?
Put one clear “Book a table” action in the website header and near the location, opening hours and menu. Use the same direct URL in your Instagram bio, relevant social posts, email signature and printed material where it helps. For groups, link diners to the right outlet or a merchant page that lets them choose an outlet.
Google says eligible Business Profiles can add reservation links. Check the Booking area of the restaurant’s profile, add the direct URL if the option is available, and test it from Search and Maps. A manually added link is different from a native Reserve with Google partner integration. TableReady is not claimed here as a Reserve with Google partner.
Use a consistent restaurant name, address and booking policy across these entry points. If you change booking software, update every old link and test the path on a mobile device before retiring the previous page.
Set availability before promoting the link
Online booking only works when the published slots reflect real service capacity. Start with opening periods, meal-specific slot lengths, party-size limits, booking cutoffs and closures. Then map seating areas and tables. TableReady supports these availability rules, floor plans and staff table assignments, subject to the outlet’s configuration.
For example, a restaurant may welcome couples throughout weekday lunch but cap large parties during a short Friday dinner service. The right rule follows the actual table layout and kitchen pace, not a generic number of seats. Keep a route for staff to handle accessibility needs, celebrations and special requests without promising something the booking page cannot confirm.
Before launch, have the host team try overlapping arrivals, a late guest, a changed party size and a private-event block. The goal is a schedule staff trust during service, not merely an attractive calendar.
A restaurant booking is not finished at confirmation
When a guest arrives, staff need a current view of bookings, table assignments and walk-ins. TableReady provides staff reservation management, floor plans and a waitlist with quoted waiting times and statuses. A host can work through arrivals and changes without treating walk-in customers as invisible to the seating plan.
Guest records in TableReady are scoped to an outlet, with tags and consent tracking. Do not assume every outlet in a group shares one customer database. Daily and date-range reports with CSV export can support an honest review of booked and seated parties; the business still needs to define how it measures no-shows and return visits.
The public TableReady booking flow currently provides on-screen confirmation and a calendar download. It does not include automated email, SMS or WhatsApp confirmations and reminders, nor online deposit collection. If those are essential to your policy, scope them with EISOL before launch.
Direct booking, marketplace or phone: which channel is best?
| Channel | Useful when | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Direct booking link | The diner already knows your restaurant and wants a quick slot. | Availability, guest data, setup, subscription and support. |
| Diner marketplace | The diner is comparing restaurants and may discover you there. | Incremental new guests, listing rules, fees and data access. |
| Phone or message | The request needs a conversation or is outside standard rules. | Staff time, response speed and prompt entry into the booking record. |
Do not assume that direct booking is free or that a marketplace is always expensive. Compare the full cost at your expected volume, including software, messaging, payment, per-cover charges where applicable and staff time. Keep one operational record so a phone request does not collide with an online slot. For a vendor comparison, read our Singapore reservation-platform guide.
Where TableReady fits in the booking journey
TableReady gives an operator a branded direct booking page and tools for availability, reservations, tables, walk-ins, guest records, event enquiries and service reporting. Its group, merchant and outlet structure helps organise a multi-outlet rollout while each outlet keeps its own rules and guest records. It is a practical fit when the priority is a direct booking path and a usable host workflow; it is not a diner-discovery marketplace.
EISOL can also scope TableReady alongside Rewardly CommerceOS, LoyaltyOS and PaymentOS. The currently documented configured connection synchronises Rewardly tables and customers. Any transaction-level connection between a booking, POS bill, payment and loyalty record must be agreed and tested for the specific deployment. The wider ecosystem is an implementation option, not an automatic feature of every TableReady booking.
A seven-step restaurant booking launch checklist
- Map demand: note the website, Google, social, phone and walk-in sources guests already use.
- Set the rules: define hours, slot duration, party size, cutoffs, closures and the cancellation policy.
- Build the floor: check tables, areas and assignments against a real busy service.
- Publish the link: update the site and other eligible channels; test every URL on mobile.
- Rehearse exceptions: change a booking, handle a late party, add a walk-in and block an event area.
- Train the host team: decide who can edit bookings, release tables and correct mistakes.
- Review outcomes: compare requests, confirmed bookings, seated parties and no-shows by daypart.
A booking count alone can flatter a poor process. Review whether people actually arrive, whether guests can find the link and whether the team can manage busy periods without double booking. Use external web analytics for link-click attribution if configured; do not assume the reservation tool measures every marketing source.
Restaurant booking in Singapore: common questions
Can diners book a table without creating an account?
In TableReady’s public booking flow, yes. A guest chooses an available slot, provides contact details and accepts the policy. A successful booking displays a reference and offers a calendar download.
Can I add my own booking link to Google Business Profile?
Google allows reservation links on eligible Business Profiles. Check the profile’s Booking section and test the published link. Adding a URL is not the same as a native Reserve with Google partner integration.
Does TableReady send automatic reminders or take deposits?
The current public booking flow does not include automated email, SMS or WhatsApp confirmations and reminders, or online deposits. Discuss these requirements before agreeing a rollout.
Can I use a marketplace and TableReady together?
A restaurant can use discovery channels alongside a direct link, but the team needs a clear process to enter and reconcile bookings so capacity is not promised twice. Confirm any platform-to-platform integration separately.
Can TableReady connect to Rewardly POS?
There is a documented configured connection for Rewardly tables and customers. A specific booking-to-bill, payment or loyalty connection requires separate scoping and testing.
